Mentors 4 Youth
Team members from both the Wagga and Cootamundra offices have recently been working as mentors in partnership with the Department of Education and Training. After undertaking training they were matched with a student from their local high school where together they developed an individualised plan for engaging the young person with planning a future career path.
Sally and Melissa have devoted an hour a week over this 14 week long program to meet with their student.
“It is a very rewarding way to give something back to the community” Sally said, “I have really enjoyed spending time with Lisa, chatting about her future, gaining an insight into the challenges the youth of today face. I have also enjoyed providing an insight into my working life as an audit manager”.
Melissa found, “The partners of HMA Twomey Patterson only too happy to support Sally and I in participating in this program. Our colleagues have been really supportive of our commitment to the program and both Sally and I have been able to balance this with our busy working days”.
The Mentors 4 Youth program is always looking for new mentors. If you’re interested in undertaking training or finding out more about the program please contact:

Shipard a hit at Development Day
After 18 months off the field and a complete break away from the game, Australian international soccer star Sally Shipard is back on the paddock playing with the Matildas.
In Cootamundra last Friday as a guest speaker at the annual HMA Twomey Patterson Staff Development Day, Sally said six years of constant training and playing commitments both nationally and internationally had her feeling burnt out at the age of 21.
Making a big decision and giving the game away at just 21 Sally embarked on a life changing journey travelling overseas.
“I’d been playing for over six years and had lost perspective and a balance on things.” Sally said.
“I definitely needed a break to realise if playing professional football was what I wanted.”
“When I came home from travelling I was not the same person, I had a different view on things and was keen to get back into the game.”
Sally returned to the game nine months ago and said she has found renewed passion and drive.
“It’s nice to bring a whole new element to the team through my overseas experiences” she said.
In May this year Sally was part of the Australian side that was crowned champions of the 2010 AFC Women’s Asian Cup held at the Chengdu Sports Centre in China and will next year to be part of the Australian team to take part in the 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup to be played in Germany.
“I was part of the 2007 World Cup team and we made it to the quarter finals” she said.
“Next year we’ll be hoping to go one better and make the semis.”
Speaking at the annual motivational day in front of 62 HMA Twomey Patterson employees, Sally spoke about the need for teamwork.
“It’s the first time I’ve spoken to a corporate group, most of my guest appearances are in front of school children or sporting groups” Sally said.
“It’s nice to come back and put something into the area I’m from.”
“Hopefully the group got something out of it.”
HMA Twomey Patterson Wagga principal David Hodge said Friday’s motivational day was a chance for employees from all five sites to get together.
“Our theme is Healthy, Wealthy & Wise.” David said.
“Every year we hold a day like this where all employees from all of the sites can get together for a fun day while also celebrating the end of the financial year.”
The day, which was held at the Arts Centre, included motivational talks, delicious lunch plus a hike in Pioneer Park.

Relay for Life
HMA Twomey Patterson was proud to support this years Relay for Life walk on Saturday March 20 & Sunday March 21, 2010.
Teams of walkers gathered at the Equex Centre in Wagga Wagga to walk around the oval for 24 hours to raise money for the Cancer Council.
The HMATP team raised $2,303.00 in donations and raffle ticket sales.
Weather for the event was good, a little bit hot in the sun on Saturday but it cooled off during the night to keep the team going right through to the end.
Our top three donors;
- HMA Twomey Patterson
- BeeDee Bags
- The Douglas Family & Friends!
Kate Selby & Kate Buchanan did a marvellous job with all the organising and spent their own time running around to make sure that the day ran smoothly.
HMATP Principal, Andrew Pryor donated the use of his tent over the weekend, and joined the team for most of the Saturday. He then backed up to join them again in the morning Sunday for a coffee and breakfast at 6.30am!
HMATP Wealth Manager, Tanya Musgrave had the most laps per hour. She put in an awesome effort and walked for a good 3-4 hours on Saturday and joined in again on Sunday to put in another great effort!
If you would like to help us reach our goal & support this worthy cause, you can make a donation via the Cancer Council's Relay For Life website.

Lock Up Your Boss Day!
Matt Woolnough; HMATP Principal, top notch accountant and generally all around good bloke found himself in a bit of a pickle recently when he was "volunteered" to join in on the recent Lock Up Your Boss Day held in Wagga Wagga to raise funds for the PCYC.
True to form, Matt stepped up to the challenge and found himself caged & on display at the Wagga Wagga Marketplace.

Rumour has it that quite a few of the Wagga HMATP team members paid up to try and keep Matt incarcerated but somehow he managed to escape anyway. Oh well, there's always next year!
